It's amazing that any of these survived play ground battles. They are so fragile. The more robust were manufactured by the Marklin company in Germany. Marklin started producing cannon in 1891 and made dozens of different types.

tin-man.gif (19844 bytes) This is a colorful, US made tin litho action cannon.  When the lever is pushed down and released, the cannon & man zoom ahead a couple of feet.  This type of movement is called "friction".
