Lavigne & Scott Yacht Cannon Co.
The Lavigne & Scott Yacht cannon company was present  in New Haven, Connecticut  from 1894 to 1898.   Their cannons are rare.

There was a direct relationship between this company and the R.H. Brown company, who also sold and later made their cannons.  I suspect Lavigne was acquired by Brown in 1898.

This is a early model with a unique, geared, sliding breech design.  The barrel is 18 inches long and is bored for a No. 4 blank. (Rim 1.25 inch, 4 inches long)

This is a close up of their early breech design.  Turning the crank one full turn moved the breech to the left, for sell insertion / extraction.

As the crank was turned, it was geared such that the it rotated out of the way as the breech moved past it.

This is a picture of the under side showing the gears on the sliding breech.  The lanyard mechanism was also geared.  A string was attached to the lever which was pivoted and geared to the firing pin.
