Cannon fuse

We pay special attention to how our fuse is packed and shipped.  Fuse is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture over a period of time thus degrading it's properties / performance.  Our fuse is carefully coiled, then shrink wrapped in plastic before placing in a second plastic bag (double packed in plastic).  Read more about fuse below.

Cannon fuse is shipped by regular surface mail to the USA 48 contiguous states only,
Not to Canada, not to Alaska or Hawaii.
Regardless of shipping method selected, fuse is sent by surface mail.
No express service.  Prices shown include shipping!

Fuse examples

Not all fuse is the same!

1. Be sure to purchase the correct diameter fuse for your cannon.  In most cases you can usually drill out the barrel fuse hole (called vent) a little larger if you can't find fuse small enough.  The fuse should slide in easily and not have to be forced.

2. You can use a drill bit to measure the fuse hole diameter.  Most bits are marked with the diameter.  Or you can use a drill index, (a holder for drill bits) which has diameter markings.

3. Obtain the right type of fuse.  There are many different types of fuse on the market.  Some fuse is designed for specific applications such as fireworks, and are not for cannon usage.  Pulling fuse from fireworks is not a good idea.  These pieces are too short and may be damaged.  Also they may burn too quickly and they may be of poor quality.

4. Burn rates are important.  You want fuse that burns about 1 inch / 2 seconds.  Fast burn rates won't give you time to get away.  Use a fuse length that will give you a few seconds to retreat.

5. Quality is important.  You don't want the fuse to burn out in the vent hole!  A cannon misfire is a scary predicament.  Don't use "paper fuse" commonly found on firecrackers.  Cheap fuse kinks easily and may not burn properly.  If this happens wait several minutes before approaching the cannon.

6. Handle fuse carefully.  Keep it coiled and try not to allow it to kink.  Keep the fuse packaged in a plastic bag or sealed container.  Take out what you will need and pre-cut your fuse lengths.

7. If the vent hole is much larger than the fuse, you should bend the fuse at a right angle before lighting it so that any sparks wont fall into the fuse hole prematurely and set off the powder charge.  This is very true for large cannons, as they usually have 1/4 inch vent holes.

Common cannon fuse use is typically green from a lacquer coating although there are different colors.  It is water resistant and in many cases water proof.
